My Story by Simona Poli and Nik Zanella
Alessandra’s artistic journey starts in Naples, a town nurturing art and passion with the same lively energy she reserves for her renown volcano. Bursts of bright creativity erupt along the flanks of the Vesuvio; Alessandra is one of them.
Napoli’s graceful energy can be seen in Alessandra’s flower compositions, canvas and installations, a passion that has taken her around the world for the past 30 years.
After relocating to London in 1999, (chasing a job at the MTV studios), she worked in different industries with the dream of selling flowers out of a refurbished Ape Piaggio, the iconic Italian three-wheeler & with the dream of opening one day a tiny restaurant on a beautiful beach by the ocean.
Alessandra spent the first 25 years of her professional life challenging herself in the fields of fashion art, technology, working for major companies like YOOX, TOD’S, GOOGLE & creating magic unforgettable supper club nights on the side of her career jobs.
For the past 25 years Alessandra has dedicated herself to fine dining, researching her culinary heritage and proposing elegant menus based on natural ingredients that she peppers with her flowers-centred artsy touch.
Thirty years into her voyage, Alessandra has absorbed every shade of the varied cultural landscapes she has crossed, always keeping art and flower composition at the centre of her cosmo.
Alessandra’s creations take inspiration from the patterns of wild flowers blending with the surrounding nature. Adhering to the ethical credo of sustainability, she doesn’t use any floral foam. There’s no paper nor plastic in her bouquets: stems are held together by hand dyed painted silk ribbons and Linen or cotton. Everything is organic and reusable. Withered petals are not even disposed of, after use: she dries them out for 18-24 months and reuses them, infusing them with new artistic life. As a result her canvases are reminiscent of late-renaissance’s ‘natura morta’, the favourite genre among Naples’ artistic elite of the XVII century. Alessandra, like Giuseppe Recco and Giovan Battista Ruoppolo before her, is a master in using dry and fresh flowers to depict the harmony of light and shadow.
Alessandra’s interest for Australian botany has led her to in-depth studies of the Australian Native Flora and Fauna & lots of constant learning from local flower farmers and gardeners.
Her suppliers are farmers and gardeners based between Sydney and the Greater Port Macquarie region, that she personally selects for the quality and sustainability of their products or at local markets wherever she is in the world. The flowers she uses are unique and autochthonous, grown in rhythm with the four seasons, without any chemical product. Supporting a small, clean production-chain is the fulcrum of her artistic and social commitment.
"Flowers with Flavours" is the combination of their osteria papazzo & alessandra papazzo flowers, to bring more magic, poetry and unforgettable experiences through two of her biggest passions.
From Australia to all around the world! while not creating and cooking you can find alessandra is teaching the beautiful practice of ahstanga vinyasa yoga.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga* is a yogic discipline of ancient tradition, rediscovered and popularized in the last century by the Indian masters Sri T. Krishnamacharya (One of the most distinguished yoga masters of the modern era) and Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, his disciple . Focused in its initial approach, on the dynamic execution of asanas, this discipline leads the practitioner to improve the physical, mental and emotional condition and to develop an increasingly strong, flexible, stable and healthy body.
**After 20 years as a competitive volleyball player and athlete I was really skeptical about yoga, but when I met Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in 2008 my feelings changed and after the first lesson at Mi.As.Yo school with Francesca Bona in Milan I spent an entire weekend looking at the blue sky and I felt that was my way, my path. Over the years I attended workshops in Italy, Europe, India & Australia with Elena De Martin, Susanna Finocchi, Kranti, David Swenson, Tim Miller, Eddie Stern, Lotta Bertilsson and Dena Kingsberg. I have studied with Dena kingsberg till 2015, after that I have been under the guidance of my husband authorised teacher, Christian Rhett Graham.
I have been introduced to the world of Sanskrit Chanting and Transcendental Meditation since 2009 thanks to Professors Narasima and Jayashree from Anantha Research Foundation in Mysore, India. In 2009 I started assisting one of my first Ashtanga yoga teachers at classes in Google Milan where I used to work, and then in 2011 I started teaching on my own in Italy and around the world. In 2015 I supported my husband Christian opening our own Ashtanga yoga studio in Byron bay. After a break of almost 2 years, I am now so glad to be returning and sharing this authentic wonderful practice.
My daily practice, meditation and teaching represent being born to a new life, purifying and recharging of a new energy. Yogalar was Born as my yoga home away from home (a traveling space where this ancient and deep discipline can be practiced and transmitted, contributing to the formation of people of all ages, cultures and religions). Ashtanga practice is a dynamic and deep spiritual practice, it’s hard for me to explain or talk about it, you have just to try it, to dance with the breath and feel it through your own body, mind and soul.
